Texarkana, Texas, is working to earn a "Film Friendly Texas Certified Community" designation from the Texas Film Commission. City leaders say passing a final ordinance—expected to be voted on June 9—is the last step in the process.
If certified, Texarkana would join 175 other cities in receiving ongoing support from the commission. Officials highlight the city’s unique location on the Texas-Arkansas border, rich history, and natural scenery as key draws for filmmakers.
City spokeswoman Brooke Stone says the certification could bring economic benefits, noting even a small three-month production could generate around $70,000 locally.
“It gives us that stamp of approval,” Stone said, “and shows we’re serious about welcoming film and TV crews.”
Meanwhile, the Texas Senate is considering a $500 million proposal to attract more productions statewide. Critics argue the funds could be better used for education.
