The Miller County Office of Emergency Management has added three new outdoor warning sirens in Mandeville, Genoa, and Doddridge, bringing the county’s total to five. Officials say the new sirens improve coverage in areas that previously had none.
OEM Director Travis Loehr says the sirens are activated when the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning, but can also be triggered manually by 911. They’ll be tested every Wednesday at noon.
The sirens, funded through an Arkansas Rural Community Grant, cost about $100,000. Loehr says the county hopes to secure more grants to add sirens in Bright Star and near Miller County Road 10.
