A former Miller County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested following an investigation into missing funds from the agency’s K-9 account.

Officials say irregularities were discovered in late November when routine financial reviews showed nearly 90 unauthorized withdrawals totaling $9,758.33. The purchases were not approved through the proper chain of command and were later linked to online orders delivered to the deputy’s residence.

Investigators determined all of the transactions were made by Deputy Shane Johnston. His employment was terminated on December 5, and the full amount of the missing money was returned later that day, along with department equipment and the K-9.

An arrest warrant for theft of property was issued, and Johnston was taken into custody and booked into the Miller County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone who donated to the K-9 account is asked to contact investigators.
