A federal appeals court has overturned the 14-year prison sentence of a Texarkana man convicted of fentanyl trafficking linked to a fatal overdose.
Judges ruled the prosecutor violated the plea agreement by urging a sentence above the agreed federal guidelines. Darell Montrell Trotter was sentenced in January 2024. The case has been sent back for further proceedings. Trotter may be re-sentenced before a different judge or withdraw his plea.
He remains in federal custody in Louisiana.
