Shop with a Cop draws crowd

Texarkana held its annual Shop with a Cop event today.

On the Texas side alone, 125 kids got the opportunity to partner up with a cop or firefighter to do their Christmas shopping.  Police, firefighters, and volunteers from the community arrived at 9 a.m. at Target on Richmond Road to help the kids get their holiday shopping done in style.  Public Information Officer Shawn Vaughn of the Texas-side police said that this is the first in-person Shop with a Cop that they've been able to do since COVID, and that the police are just as excited as the kids.

"We had to do a drive-through last year and it was still great to get to help these kids, but it just wasn't as fun as getting to go through the store with them," Vaughn said.

Chief Kevin Shutte said that this is his favorite time of year and a great way to get together with the community.

"This is how our officers kick off their Christmas season.  No matter how often I get to do it, it's still such a cool thing to do," Shutte said.
