Board of Directors meeting highlights water system

Texarkana, Arkansas, Board of Directors held a presentation for Texarkana Water Utilities during their regular meeting Tuesday evening.

The TWU executive Director Gary Smith, along with NewGen Strategies and Solutions highlighted the need for repairs and upgrades to Texarkana's water systems.  The proposed work will improve the city's water and sewage systems, with an increase in residential and commercial water bills to assist with the cost, estimated at $130 million.

The proposed work includes improving the water pressure in high-population areas, replacing existing pipes, and adding generators.  The work will be focused mainly in the areas of The Millwood Water Treatment Plant, the Waste Water Treatment Plant in North Texarkana, The Arkansas Lift Stations, the TWU Sewer, the Dead End Mains, and various stretches of residential areas deemed to need repair and improvement.

The directors determined that, while work is behind by almost a decade in some areas, they are certain these updates to the system can be accomplished quickly.  The resolution is anticipated to go through by October.
