A Texarkana man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after violating probation in a manslaughter case tied to a deadly crash in 2023.

Twenty-four-year-old Robert Gene Culpepper originally received 10 years deferred adjudication probation after pleading guilty last June. The charge stemmed from a December 2023 crash on State Line Avenue that killed 66-year-old Linda Faye Reed.

Authorities say Culpepper and another driver were racing when his truck struck Reed’s vehicle.

Less than six months after being placed on probation, Culpepper was arrested in Henderson County in connection with a road rage incident and charged with reckless driving.

Following that arrest, prosecutors moved to revoke his probation. At a hearing in January, John Tidwell, judge of the 202nd District Court, ruled Culpepper violated the terms and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Investigators previously reported Culpepper was speeding well above the posted limit at the time of the crash and had a history of reckless driving violations.

He is currently in custody with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and will be eligible for parole in 2034.
