Texarkana College Expects Enrollment Growth

Texarkana College is expecting another year of enrollment growth, with early numbers showing about 4,900 students planning to attend this fall.

That is an increase of approximately 300 students compared to last year.

College President Dr. Jason Smith says the numbers are not a record, but the school is continuing to move in the right direction.

Smith says workforce programs, including nursing and the college's newer aviation program, are continuing to grow. The aviation program has seen some of the strongest growth.

The college is also seeing more students coming from outside the Texarkana area, increasing the demand for student housing. Texarkana College has purchased two nearby apartment complexes to help meet that need.

Dual-credit students from area high schools are also contributing to the enrollment increase.

Final fall enrollment numbers are expected to be released in September.
