Texarkana’s Swanger Sports Complex is making a major impact on the local economy.
A new report shows 15 tournaments held from February through June brought an estimated 43,000 visitors to Texarkana and generated about $6.5 million in direct visitor spending.
The tournaments featured 420 teams, with 61 percent of visitors coming from outside the area. Officials say those visitors supported local hotels, restaurants and retailers.
The report also shows major growth since the complex was renovated. Five more tournaments are scheduled at Swanger this fall, with six more planned at the Grady T. Wallace Complex.
