Planning Commission Approves Convenience Store for College Hill

A long-vacant building in Texarkana, Arkansas’ College Hill neighborhood, is one step closer to becoming a convenience store.

A long-vacant building in Texarkana, Arkansas’ College Hill neighborhood, is one step closer to becoming a convenience store.

The Planning Commission unanimously approved a rezoning request Tuesday night for a property at 1617 Dudley Street, allowing owners David and Dorothy Green to move forward with plans for a walk-up store. Supporters say the business would provide essential items in an area that has lost several grocery and retail options over the years.

Commissioners noted the building has a long commercial history, despite zoning challenges. No one spoke against the proposal.

The Greens must still complete inspections and obtain a certificate of occupancy before opening. In other action, commissioners approved a 40-home subdivision on North Rondo Road and a rezoning request for a second residence on acreage along Old Ore Road.
