The U.S. Department of Justice has proposed a $1.5 million settlement with Domtar over alleged air pollution violations at its paper mill in Ashdown.
The agreement, which is subject to a 30-day public comment period and court approval, also requires the company to spend at least $2.6 million on pollution controls, leak detection improvements, and boiler testing. Federal officials say the changes will reduce harmful emissions following violations uncovered during a 2019 inspection.
Domtar must remain in compliance for two years before the agreement can be terminated.
