The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam reported in the area.
Officials say callers are pretending to be sheriff’s deputies and demanding payment for things like outstanding fines or missed jury duty. Some calls have come from blocked numbers and even used the names of real officers.
The Sheriff’s Office says it does not use blocked numbers and will never collect payments over the phone. Residents are urged to hang up immediately and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly. Never provide gift cards, cryptocurrency, bank information, or other financial details.
